We Got Mugged
We were walking back from an appointment who said he couldn't meet with us that night because he forgot he said we could go with him at that time, and we were walking along a road that was kinda dark, but nothing too intense (we had chosen previously to take detours to not take roads that were too dark). We heard people running behind us, and a kinda chubby guy with his head buzzed grabbed my shoulder and started talking really fast, but I couldn't understand him, until I felt him press a knife against my gut. At that point we knew what was happening, and we gave them our money. They aren't very good thugs though, since I still had my camera in my backpack and they didn't take either of our watches. They got away with 300 pesos, which is about the equivalent of $15. We were kind of in shock when it was happening, but after the fact it really set in how scary that was and how if we did something differently things could have turned out a lot worse. We are really glad they didn't. We told our mission president about it, and he told us to call our parents about it so they didn't have to wait an entire week to hear we got mugged. Really an eye opener to the fact that there are bad people in this world who do things much worse than that all the time. So stay safe guys.
In other news, we are teaching a cholo (gangster/hoodlum) who missed one of the appointments we had with him since he got in a fight with police officers and was in jail for 25 hours. He showed us his cracked and bleeding knuckles, and on one of his fingers he had on a CTR ring that a previous missionary had given him. Also when we told people about how we got mugged, we got told stories about how they got robbed right in the doorway of the patio of their house and all sorts of things like that. Also last week we were standing outside of a burger joint when a lady with a hand trolley with dog food on it dropped it, came right up to us, and told me that she hates white people because they treat her badly, but how she loves white people at the same time and wants to marry one, but that she doesn't like us since we're religious, and how she doesn't like God or Satan, and then just kinda smiled and walked away without us saying anything. Things that only happen on missions.
Helped a member chop wood. It was my companions second time doing it in his life.
In other news, still fighting through some personal problems with just trying to enjoy and make the most out of my time here. I'm talking with a lot of people about it, as we should, and I would recommend to everyone else who is struggling to open up and talk to others about it too.
Had a really cool experience this week where I can't really describe it as any other way besides that I was feeling the Savior's love. I really believe He wants to help us and feel love all the time, and just wants us to be happy and healthy.
Love y'all
