Running from the Russians
Met a guy in church yesterday who said he was from Nicaragua and wasn't a member, and we started talking with him. He has some crazy beliefs, like how he thinks women shouldn't talk when men are talking, and that when men are talking they should just cover their heads, since it says that in the Bible. That was all kinda crazy, but the craziest thing was the fact that he said he was going to the United States. At first, he said it was because he was running from some political problems in his country, which make sense, but we didn't realize how intense his particular problem was until he told us that the current president of Nicaragua tried to kill him, since he trained with the russians way back when and that he was a spy. He sat through the rest of sacrament meeting and the rest of church without saying anything. Being a missionary is crazy.
Got to dedicate a house this week. The main reason why we did it was because the family said that they were seeing weird things (like ghost babies sitting on their couches) and hearing weird sounds (like little girls bouncing balls up and down in the hallway). Guess that's a pretty normal occurrence here. But hey, Jesus and his Apostles cast out demons and stuff all the time right?
Lost a couple of really great investigators this week, telling us that they aren't interested in the church anymore and things like that. That was sad for us, but we'll just have to work to try and find more people.
Had interviews with our mission president this week, and they went really well. I'm learning a lot of new things, mostly because I've started to be a lot more open about things that I'm thinking about or that are on my mind.
Still working with the companion, trying not to let him get too lazy and trying to help him work hard and all that. I'm a little tired of that, since I feel like I've been doing that most of my whole mission, but I guess that's part of the experience, trying to find the balance between everything.
Had some really cool experiences reading the Book of Mormon this week. It really does have so many truths and bring such a special spirit and peace to me when I read it. Love it.
Also, the Hernandez Murillo family, who we have been teaching for a long time and who have been progressing quite a bit, told their friend who showed up to their house yesterday how they "just felt a change" once they started to meet with the missionaries. The dad of the family started saying things like "please" and "thank you" that he never said before, and they just said they felt more light and peace enter into their lives. That was really cool to be able to see them testify to their friend that they were able to see that change, because that is what I feel like I have felt through the gospel, and it was really special to be able to see that I was able to be a tool to be able to help someone else come closer to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ too.
Love you guys! Keep doing good.
